Working with Secondary Data: Purposeful, Ethical Reuse Online

Reusing data collected by others—known as secondary data—can open up new possibilities for research, but it requires thoughtful planning and ethical care. In the second session of ACU Library’s new Data Fluency series, we will help you clarify your secondary data needs, find relevant datasets, and evaluate data for quality and suitability. We will explore discovery platforms such as the Australian Research Data Commons, Research Data Australia, Australian Bureau of Statistics, and Trove, and how to engage with existing data in ways that are ethically sound, appropriately cited, and aligned with responsible research practice—including emerging considerations around AI-supported analysis and interpretation.
